What is a parlay in soccer betting?
By ProbaPredict Data Desk · Last reviewed
A soccer parlay is one bet that links two or more picks, called legs, such as a moneyline and a total. Every leg must win for the parlay to pay. The payout comes from multiplying each leg's decimal odds, so it grows fast, but the chance of hitting shrinks: three legs at 55% each hit about 17% of the time.
How does a soccer parlay work?
Pick two or more outcomes, for example Arsenal on the moneyline, Over 2.5 goals in a La Liga game and a Bundesliga favorite, and tie them into one ticket. If every leg wins, you collect the combined payout. If any leg loses, the whole parlay loses. That's the trade-off: bigger payouts in exchange for a much lower chance of cashing.
How do you calculate a parlay payout from American odds?
Convert each leg to decimal odds: for plus odds, 1 + odds ÷ 100; for minus odds, 1 + 100 ÷ |odds|. Multiply the decimals together and multiply by your stake.
- Leg 1: -150 → 1.67
- Leg 2: +120 → 2.20
- Leg 3: -110 → 1.91
Combined: 1.67 × 2.20 × 1.91 = 7.00, roughly +600 in American odds. A $20 parlay pays $140 in total ($120 profit). The parlay calculator does this instantly in American, decimal or fractional odds, with pushes.
What are the real odds of hitting a parlay?
Multiply the probabilities. Using margin-free chances for the legs above, around 58%, 44% and 50%, the parlay hits about 0.58 × 0.44 × 0.50 = 12.8% of the time, roughly one ticket in eight. Every extra leg cuts that further. Two legs at 55% hit 30%; four legs hit 9%.
How much vig is in a parlay?
Each leg carries the sportsbook's vig. In the market closing odds we hold, the average three-way moneyline margin is 5.3%. Stacked over three legs that's about 16.7% in total, and a sportsbook's own soccer prices often carry more than the market average.
| League | Matches | 1X2 margin | Over/Under 2.5 margin |

| Premier League | 1,950 | 4.4% | 4.9% |
| Bundesliga | 1,566 | 4.8% | 5.2% |
| La Liga | 1,969 | 4.8% | 5.2% |
| Serie A | 1,950 | 4.9% | 5.2% |
| Ligue 1 | 1,723 | 5.0% | 5.3% |
| Championship | 2,855 | 5.5% | 5.6% |

Worked example using our probabilities
Our model gives three picks: home win 64%, Over 2.5 goals 58%, away team not to lose 61%. Combined chance = 0.64 × 0.58 × 0.61 = 22.6%. Fair parlay odds are 100 ÷ 22.6 = 4.42 decimal, or about +342 American. If the sportsbook's legs multiply to +300 (4.00), the ticket implies 25%, more than our 22.6%. Our daily tickets show the combined chance for every ready-made parlay, graded in public afterwards.
What about pushes and same-game parlays?
If a leg pushes, for example a two-way line where the match is tied, most books drop it and pay the rest. Same-game parlays combine related picks from one match, such as a team to win and Over 2.5; because they move together, books price them below simple multiplication.
US and UK terminology
US and Canada: "parlay", "moneyline", "total", "payout", "push". UK: "accumulator" or "acca", "match result", "Over/Under goals", "returns", "void". Same bet, different words; see what an accumulator is.
Common mistakes with soccer parlays
- Forgetting the tie. A three-way moneyline pick loses on a draw.
- Treating heavy favorites as certainties. A -300 favorite still fails 25% of the time.
- Judging by the payout. A +1000 parlay pays big because it rarely hits.
- Chasing losses with bigger parlays. Set a budget and keep to it.
What is a round robin?
A round robin splits a set of picks into every possible smaller parlay. Three picks as a round robin by twos gives three two-leg parlays, so one losing leg still leaves one ticket alive. It costs one stake per parlay. The probabilities and vig of each parlay are unchanged; a round robin spreads your money across combinations rather than changing the underlying odds.
Which soccer leagues and markets do our probabilities cover?
We publish probabilities for the three-way moneyline (home, tie, away) and soccer totals at 1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 goals. Coverage includes the Premier League, the Championship, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, the Eredivisie, the Primeira Liga, the Brasileirão, the Champions League and major international tournaments. We do not cover MLS.
You can add any of our published picks to the parlay calculator with the 'Add from ProbaPredict' option, which fills in our probability and fair odds so you can see the combined chance of every leg hitting. The calculator notes when legs come from the same match, because those legs are linked and sportsbooks price them differently.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you calculate a soccer parlay payout?
- Convert each leg's American odds to decimal, multiply them, then multiply by your stake. Three legs at -110 (1.91 each) give 6.96, so a $10 parlay pays $69.60.
- What happens if a parlay leg pushes?
- Most sportsbooks drop the pushed leg and recalculate the parlay on the remaining legs. A three-leg parlay with one push becomes a two-leg parlay.
- Does a soccer moneyline include the draw?
- Usually yes: a standard soccer moneyline is three-way, so a tie loses a moneyline pick on either team. Some books offer a two-way line where a tie is a push.
- Do you cover MLS?
- No. We cover the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, the Champions League and other major European leagues, the Brasileirão and major international tournaments.
